Quality and diversity of collections
The natural science collections include around 310,000 specimens. Most of the items are from Finland.
The largest collections:
200,000 insects (especially butterflies and beetles)
68,000 vascular plants
13,000 mosses
13,000 fungi
The museum also has smaller collections of mounted mammals and birds, skeletons, skins, geological samples and fossils.
Some of the collection data are accessible through open databases by limiting the search to the materials of the University of Jyväskylä.
